gsyork.co.ukG&SSociety

The G&S committee is made up of people in the society who want to help behind the scenes making sure the shows, socials and other society things are organised. They deal with administrative stuff, and are also the main support for the directors in the production of each show. At present, the committee is made up of exec roles - chair, secretary, treasurer - a press and publicity post, usually occupied by at least two people as it's a big job, an outreach and sponsorship officer, a webmaster (by far the most critical member of a successful committee), a social secretary, and the overworked and underthanked ordinary members, who do everything that's left over, and are often far from ordinary.

The new committee has just been elected! There's always plenty to do if you still want to get involved, just email us or speak to the committee at a rehearsal. If you want to get involved in the committee for 2012-13, (a) you're really keen and organised, but (b) take a look at the committee role descriptions on the wiki.

The committee really are there to help the whole society and, however scary in appearance, are very approachable and friendly. We have a list of most of our chairs from previous years. Here are the current bunch:

Executive

Chair Treasurer Secretary

Morven Hamilton

Morven is an aspiring playwright and first year PhD student in the Theatre Department. She's also ruler of all she surveys, and anyone who disagrees is.. well, they're probably right, let's be honest. She is a Scot, after all. She's really more of a funny mascot than she is Chair

Pippa Loughran

Pippa is a 2nd year Management student. She enjoys accounts and organisation a little more than she should, hence why she chose to run for Treasurer! Her main aim for this year are to create a more open, interactive relationship between the Treasurer and the rest of the society.

Daniel Stanford

Dan is in his first year of studying Biochemistry, likes playing squash and enjoys skiing. He can also speak and sing like “Stitch” and has no idea how. Dan is also attempting (unsuccessfully) to write a musical about raptors, much to the annoyance of a few society members.

Sponsorship and Outreach

Press and Publicity

Hannah Tomlin

Hannah is a second year History student and loves it. She also loves the fact that she created her own committee position and then got elected to it. Yay! She hopes to achieve great things as Sponsorship and Outreach officer and perhaps even succeed at taking over the world someday, with the help of her trust sidekick Tom...

Tom Bruggenwirth

Tom is a first year Computer Science student/geek who likes playing his guitar, wearing tweed waistcoats and singing in the kitchen very loudly. He is looking forward to his duties as a Sponsorship and Outreach officer, which apparently include taking over the world with fellow officer Hannah.

Peter Estdale

Peter is a second-year English and Related Literature student with a penchant for anime and a copy of Photoshop Elements 4.0. Scatterbrained and difficult to contact, this is his second year as a Press and Publicity officer for the society. He has ten words to spare, should anyone want them.

Sian Lomax

Sian is a 2nd year Geography student who frequently gets mocked for doing a ‘degree in colouring in’ despite only having used her crayons once in the past year... or so she claims! She is slightly obsessed with badgers and intends to use her position as P&P officer to promote a world where the stripy mammal rules over all.

Lauren Charlton-Mathews

Ordinary Members

Stijn Hanson

Stijn is a first year Mathematics student which makes him a little bit strange. This is further backed up by his point-blank refusal to wear shoes and his minor tendency to say "wibble". He is also a dab hand at defending himself from anyone wielding a bunch of grapes. Wibble

Thomas Newby

Thomas is a second year PhD student researching in Physical-Organic chemistry. Maybe by the time he's finished he'll be able to explain what that means. He has been on committee before as Ordinary member, Treasurer and Webmaster. He hopes he can use these experiences to help him sound like he knows what he is talking about. (He doesn't half the time)

Stuart Roberts

Stuart is a longstanding member of the Gilbert and Sullivan society. Unfortunately this has meant that Stuart has had to deal with some very odd costumes (see above). Generally, he likes to share his particular interest in hair grooming with the rest of the society.
