40th Anniversary Celebrations (7pm, 10th March 2012)
The University of York Gilbert and Sullivan Society performed its first show, the Pirates of Penzance, in 1972. Whether you signed up then or joined us for later productions, or you only signed up at Freshers' Fair this year, we’re talking to you now because (in case you hadn’t already noted the date), we’re celebrating our 40th anniversary this year!
Since we’ve proved for four decades that no-one does pirates, sailors and spurious naval officers quite like we do, we thought the best way to celebrate this fantastic milestone is a massive party - on a boat. We’ve hired out the services of York Boats for an evening, and we’ll be sailing down the always picturesque River Ouse on March 10th at 7pm from the Lendal Bridge jetty.... There’ll be a glass of wine for everyone on arrival, and a buffet and bar on board, as well as live entertainment from past and current members, posters and pictures from all our previous shows, and a cheesy disco the likes of which even the Willow has never seen before.
After our little boating excursion, we’ll adjourn to the Biltmore, where we’ve booked out some space to have more drinks and chat. Whether you’ve only joined us for one show, or it’s been ten years since you joined then please come along - it's going to be a special night.
As a final note, thanks to all of you for supporting us, and being a part of the society over the years – we couldn’t have made it this far without you.

Message from our Chair (Oct 2011)
Everyone's really excited for the first Yeomen of the Guard rehearsals - it's the first time we've done this show since 1992, and it's going to be epic. We've also got the society's 40th anniversary this year - we've been going since 1972, who knew? - so there's going to be some big things happening here, starting with the 48 Hour Iolanthe show in November, directed by our lovely secretary Dan Stanford, and ending with some massive massive partying next March, after we finish up Yeomen. More about that later. But for now - Yeomen. Rehearsals starting in October. Come along. Be amazing. We will love you.
